Maze Interaction

A fun way to present a short quiz. The interaction contains 5 questions that the learner must answer to reach the end of the maze. The questions are presented randomly and will repeat until all questions are answered correctly.

One note: If you move the location of the interaction on the page from its original position, be sure to update the values of the _startX and _startY variables to the new starting X and Y location of the avatar.

The download is a Lectora v12 Library Object (.awo) . To use a library object, drag and drop the .awo file into your open Lectora application and it will expand in the Title Explorer automatically. For more information about using, saving, reusing, and sharing Lectora Library Objects for both Lectora Desktop and Lectora Online, see this article from the Knowledge Base.

Nice work Wendy! Where do I change the Avatar starting XY position numbers. Do I change this in the Reset interaction – Action Group? Sorry if this is obvious I am just staring to play with complex variables.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Daniel! 🙂 Yes, that is correct. The first two actions inside of the Reset Interactions action group is where you need to set the starting XY position.

Very engaging Wendy! Can you also provide a .pkg file? Would like to check it in Lectora Online. We r still on version 11.

Thank you, M G! Unfortunately, a .pkg file won’t do any good right now. Lectora Online isn’t capable of importing packages output by Lectora 12 yet. Hopefully, the version that will be released later this fall will be though. If it is, I will post a .pkg then.

This is great, Wendy. Thank you very much. I tried getting the answers wrong. It gave me a chance to try another question. That was good but it did not reset the questions that I failed. It retained the answer. Is it possible to add a reserve of questions for additional attempts? What does it take to increase the number of questions to 10?

      Hi Molly,
Thanks! You can indeed modify this interaction to work with a larger pool of questions. I’ll try to explain how to add 5 more questions to the pool.

First, near the bottom of the Title Explorer you will see the original 5 questions. Add 5 more questions here and rename them Question F through Question J.

Inside the Reset Interaction action group, change the following actions as follows:
ModVar _questionsToAnswer = ABCDE — add FGHIJ to the value of this variable
ModVar _questionsRemaining = 5 — change the value of this variable to 10

Inside the ChooseRandomQuestion action group, change the following actions as follows:
ModVar _randomNumber = RAND(1,5) — change the second parameter of the RAND function to 10
ModVar _currentQuestion = E IF — copy and paste this action 5 times and set the values to E though J and change the condition values to 6 through 10

Inside the ShowChosenQuestion action group, make the following changes:
Show Question E IF — copy and paste this action 5 times and change the Targets to questions F through J. Also change the condition values to F through J.

Inside the Check Answer action group, make the following changes:
ProcQ E IF — copy and paste this action 5 times and change the Targets to questions F through J. Also change the condition values to F through J.

Inside the HideAllQuestions action group, make the following changes:
Hide Question E — copy and paste this action 5 times and change the Targets to questions F through J.

And then, if you want the questions to reset between attempts, add a Reset Question action to the Try Another button that resets all of the questions of the page.

That should do it. If you run into any trouble making it work, let me know and I will do my best to help!
