We’re having an issue implementing courses on our Saba LMS.  If a user takes the final test within the course, but does not pass it, the LMS is recording the course as “failed”.  This means that learners cannot reenter the course or retake the test.  However, we only set a status of “Completed” in the course (upon passing the final test).  We don’t send any failed “notifications”.  Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Which version of Lectora do you use?

Is this your first attempt with Saba or did it work with earlier versions of Lectora?

Does the LMS receive the score a failing user has achieved?
By default the course sends the mastery score and the score a user has achieved in a test. The LMS might check the two values and automatically turn a failing score (in the test) into a “failed” status (for the course), even if there’s no “completed”.

Tim, we use Lectora Inspire and 18, we are always on the latest version, but sometimes wait a few weeks to upgrade. We have been publishing these courses for Jill for several years, with no problems reporting the Completion status back to the SABA LMS. The problem has only been reported since v18.

The client does not want Pass or Fail or test scores passed to their LMS, only a completion status (not based on a test score) that triggers when the user passes the test by hitting the Pass Page (if failed they hit the Fail Page and no completion status is sent). The action on the Pass Page is to modify the variable AICC_Lesson_Status set equal to “completed” with no conditions.

So we don’t understand what would be triggering a fail status to their LMS. (Note that the Maximum Score is set to 100 and the Mastery Score is set to 70).

    Any ideas? Thank you,

    Heidi Strangberg

@heidi, you could turn on debugging on the Publish Options page, then monitor what the value of AICC_Lesson_Status is. That will at least tell you what page the student is on when the status is set, which will help you track down the cause. If the status is never set by the course, it’s likely a SABA setting.

I agree with Carl, it would be good to find out exactly when SABA receives relevant values or when exactly it changes the status to “failed”. “failed” may come when the LMS receives “failed” or “completed” along with an insufficient score. I know moodle has a setting to automatically change the status to either “passed” or “failed” when it reveives a score without “completed”. But if it used to work, it may be v18 exclusive.

When max score = 100 and mastery score = 70, a user would fail if he achieves 60% in the test (if the course sends 60 to SABA and the systems turns this score into “failed”). You can try to uncheck “Include test score in overall score” in the test properties. Through this you can avoid to have AICC_Score updated with the test score automatically. Then you can / have to set AICC_Score manually with an action, e.g. on the “You’ve passed” page only.

Thanks Carl and Tim, both are great suggestions! We will turn on debugging AND uncheck to include the score in overall score. Fingers crossed….thanks, Heidi
