It is our goal at Trivantis to keep the community a safe place to collaborate, share ideas, and learn. While we go to great effort to protect our users, it seems a particularly crafty spammer got through our defenses recently. We are sorry about that. We detected the suspicious activity and acted quickly to block the user. Our community managers are taking steps to bolster our defenses against future abuses of the messaging feature. Thank you to those of you who reported the suspicious message.
We know our community members are a tech-savvy and knowledgeable bunch, but just in case you need a refresher, here are some best practices for keeping safe in the community and beyond:
Why do you need my email? Remember, the Trivantis Community has a messaging function that allows you to have one-on-one conversations without sharing your personal data. Take advantage of it! When an online connection asks you for personal information, do a quick gut check. Have you spoken to this person before, and do you have a good rapport? If you have any doubts about the asker’s motives, or especially if the asker is a stranger, it is best to ignore or politely decline the request.
Where does this link go? When receiving messages in the community, on email, or anywhere else a link might be sent, think twice before you click. Do you know where it’s going? Do you know and trust the sender?
Who am I friending again? Online connections are important, but before accepting a friend request from a stranger give their profile a quick glance. Make sure your new connection is a person and not a data-collecting robot. (Unless you know a robot capable of human friendship, which would be kind of awesome. You should totally friend that robot.)

We have implemented a new tool to aid in the fight against spammers–human and robot alike. But we need your help! You can now flag content, including private messages, as “inappropriate.” This will notify your friendly neighborhood moderators, we’ll take a look at the flagged content and the user who sent it, and if necessary, block them from the community for all time.
